Celebrate Kentucky

While the living wall will certainly illustrate the uniqueness of Kentucky’s landscape -- from the state’s lush farmland to its hearty, rugged mountains and thriving cities -- its goal is to showcase the unique lives of Kentucky residents, as seen through the lens of the yearly seasons.

Indeed, the purpose of this living wall resides within its name. Life.

Life and hope will be found here, on the ever-changing wall: the vibrant, explosive birth of Spring ... the effervescent pulse of Summer ... the celebratory glow of Fall, autumnal leaves, nature’s fireworks show ... and the confident anchor that is Winter, where life endures and the promise of rebirth is assured.

From a technical and artistic standpoint, the living wall will dazzle visitors, patients and staff. But more importantly -- and more holistically -- the wall will provide visual, emotional and spiritual meaning for the hospital’s constituents. Its photos will showcase relevant, resonant, visually poetic imagery. Stirring portraits. Stunning landscapes. Candid photos that reveal moments of personal triumph, grit, and hope.

It is the majesty of the land, its animals and its people that will be displayed on the living wall. Delightful, insightful moments of Kentucky life, miraculously captured in freeze-frame.

The depth of these photos will not only resonate; they will educate. Hospital visitors will see facets of Kentucky they likely never knew existed. Kentucky’s population and socio-economic diversity can be presented here in ways that -- while illuminating differences -- clearly illustrate our unity and commonalities. By committing resources to document the life and people in all counties of the state, the living wall becomes more than a visual and emotional anchor for the second level of the atrium. It will become a beacon, revealing the unique elements of Kentucky life ... and reminding us of our solidarity.

Ultimately, this is the cohesive experience that the living wall promises to deliver. From the macrocosm of the changing seasons (and the primal visual and emotional themes those seasons represent) to the microcosm of an individual resident’s life (and the universal challenges and victories we all share), the living wall will visually convey the beauty, promise and hope of Kentucky life ... and the emotional and spiritual insights perfectly suited for the hospital.
